In Diablo 4 Season 14, a good Legendary drop is often only the starting point. Tempering lets you add a useful extra affix to eligible gear and tailor an item more closely to your build. Whether you are leveling a Whirlwind Barbarian or pushing high Torment content, knowing how to improve gear can be just as important as finding Diablo 4 Gold and other valuable resources.

How to Unlock Tempering

You can start Tempering after unlocking the Blacksmith and finding a Temper Manual. These manuals act as permanent crafting recipes. Once used, the recipe is added to your Codex and can be used again whenever you have a suitable item and the required materials.

Temper Manuals begin appearing around Level 30 and can drop from activities such as:

• Helltides
• Nightmare Dungeons
• Infernal Hordes
• The Pit
• Whispers
• World Bosses
• Boss-ladder encounters

This means you will naturally collect more crafting options as you progress through the season.

How the Tempering Process Works

The system is straightforward. Visit a Blacksmith, open the Tempering tab, place your item in the crafting window, and choose one of your learned recipes. You can then select the affix you want from the available options.

The main Temper categories include:

• Weapons
• Offensive
• Defensive
• Utility
• Mobility
• Resource

This makes crafting much less random than simply waiting for the perfect drop. If your build has Fury or Mana problems, a resource-focused Temper may be more useful than another small damage increase. If you are struggling to survive, defensive or cooldown support can make a much bigger difference. That is why it is worth planning your upgrades before deciding whether to buy Diablo 4 Gold or spend resources elsewhere.

Which Items Should You Temper?

Do not feel pressured to heavily invest in every item you find while leveling. Temper useful upgrades when they clearly improve your build, but save serious optimization for gear with strong base affixes and long-term potential.

Legendary items are especially important because they have four base affixes and can gain an additional Tempered affix. Later, Ancestral Legendaries become even more valuable thanks to Greater Affixes. A strong Ancestral item with the right Aspect, base stats, and Temper can remain useful for a long time, making good crafting decisions a better investment than simply chasing cheap Diablo 4 Gold for every upgrade.

Can You Reroll a Bad Temper?

Yes, although Tempering has limited attempts. If the result is not ideal, you can reroll the item until its available attempts are used up. Scrolls of Restoration can also restore a Temper roll, giving valuable gear another chance instead of forcing you to throw it away.

These Scrolls can be obtained through Infernal Hordes and the Dark Citadel. For high-quality items, that extra flexibility can save a lot of time and materials.

Why Tempering Matters in Season 14

Tempering remains a major part of Diablo 4's endgame item progression. Patch 3.1.0 also gives Season 14 players more reason to pay attention to premium crafting, with affixes added through systems such as Tempering and Enchanting receiving maximum values when applied to Mythic Unique items.

The best part of Tempering is that it gives players more control over their loot. A single smart affix can fix a resource problem, strengthen a core skill, or make a fragile build feel far more reliable. As you hunt for better gear and explore cheap Diablo IV Gold for sale options in the game's economy, remember that the right Temper can sometimes turn an ordinary drop into your next major upgrade.
